So over the past 161years, Numbers #4 and #12 are the most successful, boasting 11 wins. Number #1 is always a good thing, with 10 wins. Remember Makybe Diva winning in 2005 wearing #1? The last horse carrying #1 prior to that was Rising Fast in 1954. ( So my Dad told me!) Along with #6 with 10 wins, most recently Twilight Payment (2020). # 5 and # 8 have enjoyed 8 wins, and #2 and #11 with 7 wins. The Unluckiest Melbourne Cup saddlecloth ? It is # 18.
